ILLUMINATED ANTHEM

Illuminated Anthem, is inscribed with the lyrics of the song, "Lift Every Voice and Sing,” originally written as a poem by James Weldon Johnson in 1900 and set to music by Johnson's brother, John Rosamond Johnson in 1905. It was declared the "The Negro National Anthem" by the NAACP in 1919 and became an important anthem of the Civil Rights Movement for it's powerful declaration of determination and hope in the face of adversity and oppression. It's lyrics transcend racial boundaries; it has become an aspirational song for all oppressed people in the struggle for freedom and equality.
