Childhood

The ongoing project Childhood depicts the artist and the artist's friends when they were children. Each painting is based on a school photograph and assumes a relatable, egalitarian aspect. While the subjects retain the realistic color of their teeth, gums and eyes, the skin and hair incorporate shades of ultramarine blue– historically the most expensive pigment used by Renaissance painters. Childhood is ultimately a commentary on society's notion of skin color and value.
